3QT

Three quick things, then I have to get to some plumbing repair.

1) Figure skating last night was lame, for the most part, but then Shizuka Arakawa absolutely blew my mind. I'm still not a fan of figure skating, but her performance was inspiring. I don't know how to explain it, but her poise and execution was different from everyone else's. And it was nice to see her reaction when they announced Slutskaya's scores, showing that Shizuka had won.
This guy totally choked her (while consciously staying in frame) when they announced that she would win gold.

2) I've been thinking about the Dubai port management deal. I'm glad that Dubai Ports world offered to slow things down. I think our president is on the right side of this one (encouraging the deal), but it's probably for the wrong reason (I just can't trust that guy). I'm becoming more and more in favor of having America be very open to the world. I think the more we move toward internationality, the safer we will be. What's the opposite of isolationism?

3) I forgot what number three was. I think I covered it in number 2.

yeah, i think that whole dp thing is reactionary and isolationist. and now the teamsters have slouched onto the bandwagon.

ooh, some of the 9/11 terrorists were from dubai. really? weren't about 18 from saudi arabia? that hasn't stopped us from doing business with them.

furthermore, how does this relate to iraq? what, iraq had nothing to do with 9/11?

let nothing distract us from our vigilance in investigating quailtardcheneygate.

That is one cool dog.

In response to the Dubai thing, the opposition is partly due to the fact that UAE was funneling money to AlQuada, but they have supposedly stopped and are buddies with us once more. I think the real issue is that once again the administration has sidestepped policy. There is a law that says this sort of deal needed to go through the security committe or some such thing, but the president say, don't worry, we checked them out and everything is ok, we don't need to follow your laws, just trust us. Then when congress gets pissed and stands up for themselves he threatens to veto any new laws they pass regarding oversight of foriegn companies running high securtiy operations.

I agree with Jay about becoming more international, in fact one of the ports they are talking about is already run by a European country. I think the real issue is the secrecy and unilateralism of this administration.

I hope they do pass a law and he vetos it and they have enough support to over-rule his veto. Someone needs to bring the administration down a notch or three
