I just found a listing of sightings of the magic number series in the show. It's a bit like looking for the Lincoln/Kennedy similarities, but still there are quite a few spottings that had to be intentional. It's fun to be all into the plot of this goofy show.
Last night's new episode was very interesting and entertaining. It gave the back story on Mr. Eko, which I've been dying to know. Turns out he was a kid in Nigeria who gave himself to be kidnapped by a band of marauders in place of his younger brother. The brother became a priest, and the inevitable confrontation came when they were grown up and Eko came to his brother to demand that he help smuggle drugs out of Nigeria in a missionary plane. Things went sour, and the priest ended up on the plane, leaving Eko appearing as a "priest" and his brother on the doomed missionary plane, which by weird twist of fate crashed on the island. When Eko later crashed on the island in Oceanic 815, he was a powerful and spiritual man, but he saw the religious statues containing his drugs, and he knew that his brother had died on the island. The intertwined story of Charlie (Heroin Hobbit) is for another time.
Here's the great thing about the show: everyone on the island is forced to face his or her past and decide what they will do and who they will be in the new life on the island. It's the same thing that I like about Zombie movies-- OK, the world as we know it is dead. Now what?

Oh wow. This is awesome. I'm sure other nerds have found this before but I didn't see it anywhere. I was trying to find another link to put up, and as a joke, I went to www.oceanic-air.com , which is the fictional airline that operated the plane that crashed. Well, their website says that all flights have been cancelled effective immediately. OK, that's funny. But there were some garbled words to the right. I coped and pasted them into word, and there's an SOS message there from someone named Sally. I can't find who Sally is... They have a computer on the island, but the Dharma Initiative doctor warned them not to try to use the computer for anything other than entering the code. Spooky!
Here's the text, as much as I could get. Enjoy--
If anyone should find this message, please get word I'm alive and stranded on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Please send help soon. Things are bad. And they're getting worse...
Sally
I survived a horrific plane crash and am stranded on an island somewhere Northeast of Australia and Southwest of Hawaii. In the event that I am never found, please forward

we got into lost at the end of last season. or maybe it was over the summer during season 1 reruns. totally hooked.
my friend matt and i were discussing the redemptive issues of mr eko on the episode. like, he gave up his own life on behalf of his brother. then his brother returned the favor. the funny thing was, eko also said that the other guy saved his life as well. neither matt nor i figured that one out. matt's wife did though. the guy saved his life by kicking him off the plane. his greed saved eko's life.
it was also interesting to consider charlie's story. like, we try and make things our past, put them behind us. but, so many times we keep them hanging around and never fully get by them. whether it's falling back into them in times of stress, trouble or just the security of knowing that you've still got your little "thing" to hang onto. and i know how funny that last line reads.
So I wondering what you guesses are to the black cloud of smoke. The devil?? And I could of sworn that I saw Walt inside the cloud.
Well all I can say is that I really hope that this show will do right by it's viewers and not end with out explaining all the mystries of the island or at least answer the big questions.
As a long time fan of these "freaky" shows I've been all to let down by the lack of answers provided by these shows. For example take the show Twin Peaks. Even after publishing a book and releasing a movie I still don't know who killed Laura Palmer. One more example is the X files they went on for 10 years with no real answers. Maybe Dallas explained it all best by making it all a dream
Yeah. I have a lot invested in this show. Emotionally.
I saw someone in the cloud of smoke too, but I figured the smoke was examining Eko's past and his soul. I think the smoke backed off because (although they didn't show it) Eko turned into a good person after his brother saved him.
If the past is still there, still hanging on, after the crash-- if the survivors can't completely leave behind their previous life, then I imagine Eko is going to face a trial in the future where he may have a chance to seize control of the group by force. I'll be interested to see that.
my thought when i saw this post: 'man, i wish this wasnt about lost, then i would read it. well, not much to do anyway, so might as well.'
so then i go to the 'crazy people who think the numbers are super important' blog, and i get hooked. now i am wondering why i havent seen an episode yet and how many seasons are on dvd so i can get caught up, and where the money will come from to buy a dvd player...
